Formed in December of 2002, SLAGG was on a mission to become a hard rocking force and make themselves a household name. Starting out as a 5 piece in Wells County, Indiana, Clay Onweller (guitar), Trent “Bones” Hirschy (bass), Jared Weberg (drums), Ryan Ramsey (guitar), and Paul Arnold (vocals) started out as bottom feeders and paid their dues. After a few house parties, bars, and music festivals the foundation of their sound and fan base was formed. In December of ’03 Arnold left the band and Josh Loucks stepped in giving the band the voice they had been looking for. 2004 was a busy year with lots of shows and 2 demos that were recorded. In the beginning of ’05 Ryan Ramsey departed and the boys set out to try and go to the next level. Kent Christon, CEO of Smash Alley Records, saw their first show as a 4 piece in May of ‘05. Only 2 months later they were in the studio with Tim Bushong making their full-length album debut, “think less, feel more.” After that they started opening up for a national act here and there. By 2006 they were opening for a national act once, sometimes twice a month, while playing out every single chance they got. The Woodshock Music Festival in Bellefontaine, OH opened many doors for them as they were playing all over the Midwest consistently. The summer of ’07 saw the release of their second full-length, “Pedigree” (produced by Bushong again) which earned them Whammy nominations for best rock release along with best hard rock/metal band. SLAGG is primarily hard rock with melodic outbursts, but ultimately, they believe in the power of the head-banging riff. Both albums are available at Wooden Nickel, CD Baby, and iTunes. They have had the pleasure of opening for Anthrax, Nonpoint, Static-X, Saliva, Flaw (3 times), Dope (twice), Soil, Bobaflex (twice), Silent Civilian (3 times), Egypt Central (twice), Bleed the Sky, and others. In late ’07 Jared Weberg left the band and they searched for a new drummer. In Dec., Tim Whitehead from the Fifth Columnist out of Lima, OH jumped right in. SLAGG also brought on board his band mate, Matt “Louie” Lawson as a 2nd guitarist bringing them full circle to their 5 piece days. With the new lineup intact, a bunch of shows already booked, and the 2 Whammy nominations 2008 is off to a great start. They hope to take their hard partying show out of the Midwest and across the rest of the U.S. as soon as humanly possible… if not sooner. |
